Abstract

794,903. Moulding-machines; moulding- processes. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and BEECH, A. S. Nov. 2, 1954 [Aug. 15, 1953 ; March 8, 1954], Nos. 18397/53 and 6718/54. Class 83 (1). A shell-moulding process comprises blowing a powdered sand-resin mix into a narrow space between heated box-sections so that the core, gate or mould-part is moulded on all faces, the sections of the box being thereafter separated to permit removal of the mould-part &c. In a machine, Fig. 1, shown moulding a gate, a twopart electrically-heated box 11, 12 is opened or closed by rams 15, 16, and a mix-box 22 is movable into register with the charging-opening 23 by an air cylinder 26, so that sand-resin mix may be blown into the box by air from a pipe 25. Opposite the charging-opening, a second opening is sealed by a hollow ram 37, within which works a ram 39 carrying an electrically heated plunger 40 which shapes the interior of the gate. In a modification, mouldhalves are made by injecting the mix into the narrow gap between a heated pattern. and a heated back-plate.
