Abstract
1322275 Forming holes in the ground O LEHMANN 5 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13155/ 71 Heading E1F An apparatus for forming a hole in the ground, comprises a member 4 carrying a hole forming tool 7, which is longitudinally displaceable relative to a winch 3 by a cable 3b, the winch being lockable to the member and movable relative to a support 1 by a drive arrangement 5 to advance the tool into the ground. The support 1 may be the jib of an excavator, and may receive a pin 2a pivotally supporting a channel member 2 having outwardly extending flanges along which the winch is guided by rollers 3a on the winch frame. The drive arrangement is a double acting piston and cylinder unit. The member 4 is lowered by the winch 3 until the tool 7 rests on the ground. The winch and member 4 are locked together by a coupling 6 and the piston- and cylinder unit is extended to force the winch and member 4 downwardly, so that the tool 7 forms a hole in the ground. The tool 7 may be supported on a member e.g. a drill spindle which is extensible from the member 4.
