Abstract
1322118 Crane safety devices; winche mountings J I CASE CO 19 April 1971 [2 June 1970] 22291/71 Heading B8B A crane comprises a telescopic boom 24, 26, 28 extended by rams 30, 32 fed with hydraulic pressure fluid through a conduit 34. A load line 42 from a winch drum 48 passes over pulleys 47, 46 to a load block 40. The winch drum 48 is supported on a bracket 60 by lugs 68, (62), Fig. 2 (not shown), the whole being carried by standards 64 forming part of a base 67 attached to base section 16 of the crane. Tension in the load line 42 tends to cause an arm 84 attached to the bracket 60 to rotate counterclockwise against the action of a spring 74. If the boom 24 is extended inadvertently so as to cause the load block 40 to jam against the boom head the tension in the load line 42 rises and, at a predetermined level, the arm 84 moves enough to actuate a cut-off valve 80 in the conduit 34 to prevent further extension of the boom 24.
