Abstract

1321733 Collapsible bath and basin assembly B B NEWBURGER 12 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 14612/71 Heading A4N A collapsible washing assembly includes a bath and a basin, both made of flexible plastics material such as polyvinylchloride, so that they may be collapsed and stored in a cabinet. The bath 11 is made from a cushioning layer (33), Fig. 5 (not shown) of plastics foam, e.g. polyurethane, sandwiched between sheets (31), (32), of flexible plastics material. The bath 11 is mounted in a rigid oval frame (27), Fig.4 (not shown) pivotally supported on a gimbal (28) which is secured to a bracket (29). The bracket (29) is hinged and folds into or out of a compartment of the cabinet 10. The basin 12 is mounted in a table 22 which is stored in a second compartment of the cabinet 10, whence it may be withdrawn and erected by means of a hinged bracket (23), Fig. 3 (not shown) and foldable legs (24). A supply unit 19, which is stored in a third compartment of the cabinet 10, may be withdrawn therefrom and placed above the bath 11 or basin 12, being slidable on a vertical track (20) and being connected to a flexible supply tube (21), which is connected to a supply coupler fixed to the cabinet 10. The supply unit 19 supplies hot or cold water from a single outlet, being controlled by a single knob. The bath 11 and basin 12 are connected to flexible drain pipes (34), (35) and (26), connected to a drain coupler fixed to the cabinet 10. The third compartment of the cabinet 10 also contains a shower head 17 linked to a flexible supply pipe 18 which is also attached to the supply coupler. The first and second compartments of the cabinet 10 may be concealed by a roll-top door 13, and the third compartment by a sliding door (16), Fig. 1 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment, Figs.8A and 8B (not shown), the cabinet 10 has a single compartment housing the bath 11, the table 22 being hinged to the top exterior of the cabinet 10. The cabinet 10 may be made of wood or a suitable plastics panelling material, and may be mounted on castors. The bath 11 may be used as a cushioning lining for an existing rigid bath.
