Abstract

1321334 Paper MISHIMA PAPER MFG CO Ltd 27 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41340/70 Heading D2B Paper is made from a stock comprising at least 20% of carboxymethyl- or carboxyethylcellulose or an Al, Ba, Zn, Sn or Mn salt thereof in fibrous form by adding an alkalimetal compound to the stock on a carrier, e.g. a felt after the couch and then drying, the alkali-metal compound and amount used being chosen to give the finished paper a pH of 8 to 10. Suitable compounds are the hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates, borax, sodium phosphate, sodium silicate and mixtures of these. The stock may comprise a mixture of the cellulose derivatives, or may contain up to 80% of other papermaking materials, e.g. kraft pulp, sulphite pulp, polyamide or polyester fibres, glass fibres or asbestos. Colouring and sizing agents may be added, in Example 2 clay and titanium dioxide are added. The paper is quickly dispersible in water.
