Abstract

1321164 Emulsion burners ELF UNION 11 Nov 1971 [7 Dec 1970] 52435/71 Heading F4T In a burner 1, burning an emulsion of light hydrocarbon fuel and water, the water is fed along an intake conduit 4 through a non-return valve 5, an electro-valve 6 and filter box 7 to a drop-by-drop dosing device 9, the flow rate of which is controlled by a screw 10, and thence to a mixer 11 where the water mixes at 13 with the hydrocarbon fuel drawn along pipe 3 to form an emulsion which is pumped by a pressure pump 15 to an injector of the burner via a conduit 18 with an electro-valve 20. The burner is also provided with a branch circuit 19, leading back to the fuel tank, which also has an electrovalve 21. The valves are controlled such that when the valve 21 is open, during and 30 seconds after start-up of the burner, the valves 6 and 20 are closed so that no water is admitted and pure hydrocarbon fuel is fed through the pump 15 and back to the fuel tank along the branch circuit 19 and when the valve 21 is closed at ignition of the burner the valves 6 and 20 are open such that a water/hydrocarbon fuel emulsion is formed which is pumped along conduit 18 to the burner injector.
