Abstract

1,198,841. Supplying engines with gasefied fuel. H.J. BOSWELL. July 24, 1968 [April 24, 19671. No. 8173/67. Heading F1B. Liquid fuel is fed by a pump 10 to a float chamber 13 controlling the fuel level in a reservoir 14 from which the fuel flows through pipe 16 to a fuel heater, the gasefied fuel being returned through pipe 17 to the reservoir 14 and fed through pipe 19 to the engine. A cut-off valve 12 is open at starting to supply liquid fuel to the intake pipe 11, the valve 12 being shut off automatically by means responsive to the temperature of the fuel heating means. In Fig. 1 the fuel heater comprises a pipe 20 passing through the exhaust manifold; alternatively the fuel may be heated in a jacket surrounding the exhaust pipe. In Fig. 3 the fuel is passed through a pipe 25 in a casing filled with a fluid and heated indirectly by an electric heater 24. The valve 12 may be locked when the vehicle is unattended to prevent starting.
