Abstract

1422646 Heating liquid fuel LACREX BREVETTI S A 8 Feb 1973 6145/73 Heading F1B An I.C. engine fuel pre-heater, particularly for a diesel engine comprises a heat exchanger positioned between a fuel tank and an injection pump or carburetter and provided with an electrical heating source which consists of at least one halogen lamp. Fuel, for a diesel engine 7, is drawn from a tank 1 and passes through a first filter 2, which is surrounded by a heating jacket, along line 17 and through pipe 4 which is again surrounded by a jacket 3. Fuel then passes through a second filter 9 and subsequently through a heat exchanger 24, which is associated with a thermostat 23, a relay 22 and the starter motor switch key 29. First filter and heat exchanger Fig. 2. Filter 2 is enclosed by jacket 20 and has an inlet pipe 14 and an outlet pipe 15 through which exhaust gases or engine coolant enter and leave. Second heat exchanger Fig. 4. Fuel line 4 is wound around part of tube 3 which is enclosed by a jacket 24. Exhaust gases or engine coolant flow through tube 3. In the lower part of the jacket are two halogen lamps 27 and 28 which are switched on when the key 29 is inserted in the starter motor switch, but which are switched off, by means of the relay 22 during the period of time for which the starter motor is actually energized. The jacket 24 is made in two parts, on one of which the two lamps are mounted, so that the parts can be applied to the tube 3 in a radial direction, for ease of assembly.
