Abstract

1321107 Tilt jacks; automatic control CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 4 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 27059/70 Heading E1F [Also in Divisions Fl and H1] A hydraulically operable device includes a first member reciprocable rectilinearly relative to a second member, at least one switch mounted on the second member, and a switch actuating element suspended by elastic means connected between the members. As shown, Fig. 3, actuating magnet 71 is suspended by springs 81, 83 within tube 73 and, Fig. 2, between piston rod 17 and cylinder portion 55 of a hydraulic tilt jack 16 of an excavating bucket. A proportion of the piston's movement is imparted to the magnet, which actuates cylinder-mounted proximity switches 65, 67 as it passes by them. Signals from the switches withdraw a detent means, via a solenoid-controlled hydraulic jack, to stop the telescoping of the jack 16, and so automatically stop bucket tilt in the carry or dump positions. The magnet may be suspended within tube 73 on the outside of the cylinder. The range of movement of the magnet may be altered by changing the number of free coils of the springs or by moving the switches by rotating them in eccentric mountings.
