Abstract

1399789 Shovelling machines CATER PILLAR TRACTOR CO 29 Aug 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 40721/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division F1] When a control lever 10, Fig 1, is pivoted about a pin 24 a lever 25 is pivoted downwards about a pin 30 to move a spool 32 of a valve 14 which causes retraction of a cam 46. A magnet 36 on the lever 2 closes a normally open switch 40 to energise a solenoid 42 which holds down a ferrous bar 34 attached to the lever 28. Thus the control lever 10 is held in the pivoted condition and the valve 14 remains open until a magnet 54, moved by the cam 46, causes a normally closed switch 38 to open to de-energise the solenoid 42 and allow the valve 14 to return to the neutral position. As described the ram 46 controls the tipping of the bucket of an excavator and a further valve 12, which is operated by pivoting the lever 10 about a pin 18, controls a ram which raises the bucketsupporting arms The electromagnetic control circuit holds the valve 14 open until the bucket has reached the level position ready for the next digging movement. Fig 2 shows an embodiment in which a ram 64 for raising bucket arms 116 is also controlled electromechanically. A magnet 114 on the arms 116 opens a normally closed switch 106 when the arms are raised to a preselected point. This deenergises solenoid 42 and releases a bell-crank 62 so that the valve 12 may return to its neutral position. Two magnets 122, 124 attached to the rod 52 of ram 46 cause the ram to be arrested in either the position in which the bucket is level with the ground or in the fully racked-back position. Fig 5, (not shown), illustrates a hydraulic control circuit for the lift and tilt rams.
