Abstract

1320883 Washing and sterilizing apparatus SYBRON CORP 14 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1971] 1886/72 Heading A4F [Also in Division A5] Articles, e.g. bed-pans, trays, dishes, etc, in chamber 8, are washed and rinsed by water from a reservoir 20, and then sterilized by steam, steam also being used to heat the water in the reservoir 20 via line 58. When the temperature of the water reaches that required for the wash cycle, as controlled by temperature sensor TS-2, a pump 28 fills the chamber 8, a second pump 46 then cycling the water, plus detergent from tank 38, until a time delay relay TDR-1 initiates draining through lines 52, 86. Rinsing, at a higher water temperature controlled by sensor TS-3, is facilitated by a pulse motor which intermittently activates the pump 28, the water being constantly drained from the chamber 8. During the following sterilizing cycle, all the steam from line 56 is directed to the chamber 8, condensate being drawn therefrom by opening solenoid valve SV-9 and activating water ejector 74. After sterilization, the steam in chamber 8 is condensed by passing water through coil 80 thereby causing a partial vacuum which activates vacuum switch VS-1 and initiates the venting of the chamber 8. Steam activated gaskets 64, 66 and valve V5 are opened to the atmosphere releasing the partial vacuum in chamber 8 allowing the removal of the articles on conveyer 18.
