Abstract
Textile fabrics e.g. linen or clothing are washed by watery soap solutions or chemical cleaning liquid contained in a pressure vessel. The washing process comprises a single washing at high pressure e.g. 300 to 500 g/cm2 but possibly higher, and then, still under pressure at least one centrifuging operation and at least one rinsing operation. In a preferred process there is a first centrifuging operation; a first rinsing operation; a second centrifuging operation; a second rinsing operation; and finally a third centrifuging operation. The pressure during the centrifuging operation is preferably not higher than during the washing operation. The fluid which pressurises the vessel e.g. steam and/or compressed air is independent of the washing liquid and supplied from outside the vessel. The temperature of which the washing operation is carried out is preferably 102 DEG C. The fabric may be soaked under pressure before the washing operation. The alkaline content of the bath may be increased to prevent the fixation of albumin and pigments.
