Abstract

Wet processing of fibrous textiles where removal of wax deposits and saponification of any greases are combined with washing and bleaching treatments by adding a caustic alkali reagent to balance the pH effects of the bleaching reagents and by using a boiling water wash for a period of =8 mins. Pref. the textile components are led over a rotary rack passing through a reagent bath in a heated chamber. The incoming textile is specif presatd. with >=1 of the reagents prior to entering the bath, and the textiles are then subjected to a boiling water and opt. steam jet treatment in an ancillary chamber. Applicable to work up of crude filaments, tapes or cloths of natural or synthetic fibres. Chemical balancing is used to keep starches in soln. in presence of oxidn. agents. Submersion in boiling water maintains a higher local humidity/temp balance than a conventional steam chamber, allowing cycle times to be approx. halved. Only two individual processing vessels needed.
