Abstract

1338781 Dish washing machines PHILCOFORD CORP 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970] 26852/71 Heading A4F A method of washing heavily soiled dishes, pots, and pans comprises treating the articles with a detergent solution at a temperature of approximately 175‹ to 210‹F. for approximately 75 to 180 minutes, and rinsing the dishes in water heated to about 200‹F. The detergent solution has a concentration of at least 10 grams per gallon and preferably comprises a solution of a mixture of a water soluble alkaline condensed phosphate, a water soluble alkali, metal silicate, and chlorinated tri-sodium phosphate. An automatic dish washing machine for carrying out the method comprises a pump 14 for passing liquid from a sump 17 to a rotary sprayer 13 for discharge on to the dishes, etc. The pump 14 is driven by an electric motor 22 which also drives a pump 21, which when driven in one direction passes liquid from the sump 17 to a drain 25 and when driven in the opposite direction passes liquid from the sump 17 through a gas fired heater 27 and a changeover valve 18 either to a rotary sprayer 29 or to a detergent dispenser 28. An electrical control system for the machine is described. The machine may be modified to provide intermittent spraying, or a two speed motor may drive the pump to provide either normal or low pressure sprays. The washing method may alternatively be effected by immersing the articles in the detergent solution and subsequently rinsing them by sprays of water.
