Abstract
1320645 Electro-plating PRODUCTION MACHINERY CORP 19 April 1971 [1 June 1970] 21202/71 Heading C7B In electro-plating e.g. continuously moving steel strip with Cr from an aqueous CrO 3 - SO 4 or SiF 6 plating solution, the fumes generated by the process (from the plating tank and optionally the rinsing tank) are passed, e.g. via gas hood(s) and conduit into a concentrator in intimate liquidvapour contact with at least a portion of the process solution (plating solution and/or overflow rinse water) to dissolve therein chemical values contained in the fumes, and the process solution containing dissolved values is employed in the process. Intimate contact is preferably carried out in a packed bed in the concentrator, wherein the process solution is sprayed upon the packed bed and fumes and passed upwardly therethrough, and gases leaving the bed are passed through a demister above in the concentrator, before exhausting. Overflow rinse water is preferably initially contacted with a cation exchange resin to remove trivalent Cr.
