Abstract

1320413 Electro-photographic element RICOH KK 29 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969 6 Oct 1969] 46297/70 Heading H1K An electro-photographic element comprises a support provided on one side with an electroconductive layer and the other side with a subbing layer having a photo-conductive layer thereon wherein the subbing layer comprises a methylol polyamide, a water-soluble high molecular weight substance having at least one hydroxy, carboxyl or amino radical and a water dispersible resin. The support is preferably baryta, glassine or fine art paper whilst the conductive layer may be a coating of polyacrylic ester, sodium polyacrylate and clay or carboxymethyl cellulose, methylol polyamide and NH 4 Cl. The photo-conductive layer is made from a mixture of ZnO, a silicone resin, an acrylic resin and Rose Bengal. The subbing layer is exemplified by mixtures of NH 4 Cl, polyvinyl alcohol, melamine resin, aminodenatured starch, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium polyacrylate, a copolymer of N-methylol acrylamide with ethyl acrylate or acrylamide, methylol polyacrylamide, polyacrylic ester and copoly acrylic acid + methyl methacrylate + ethyl acrylate. The methylol polyamide acts as bridging agent for the water-soluble high molecular substance. The subbing layer may also include clay, CaCO 3 , organic salts, antistatic agents or a high MW conductor.
