Abstract

1306273 Electrophotographic element ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP 12 March 1970 [4 April 1969] 11971/70 Heading H1K An electrophotographic element comprises a polyester substrate having coated thereon a conductive polymeric layer and a photoconductive layer wherein the conductive polymeric layer is poly - N,N - dimethyl - 3,5 - methylene piperidinium chloride, the dipotassium salt of a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride or a polymeric vinylbenzyl quarternary ammonium compound and the photoconductive layer is poly-N-vinyl carbazole or poly-N-vinylbenzocarbazole. The conductive polymeric layer has a surface resistivity less than 10<SP>10</SP> ohms per square and the element has alight transmittance greater than 1% of incident radiation and less than 10% differential in light transmittance between two given areas on the photoconductive surface. Donor complexes of polyvinylcarbazole may be used. The polymeric ammonium compound may be a homopolymer or a copolymer with acrylamide or divinylbenzene. The conductive polymer is preferably applied as an aqueous alcoholic solution to the substrate.
