Abstract

1,174,168. Secondary recovery. GAF CORP. 27 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 19538/67. Heading E1F. The flooding water used in secondary recovery of petroleum includes a copolymer of methyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride with a M.W. of 500,000 upwards and sufficient of an inorganic salt including some multivalent cations to give a resistivity of 0.3 to 1 ohm <SP>I</SP> in concentration of 0.0025 to .25 percent of the composition. The treatment also prevents the deterioration of biocidal action of quaternary ammonium compounds usually used in water-flooding.
