Abstract

1315954 Belt tensioning devices COVRAD Ltd 9 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 46007/69 Heading F2Q Belt tensioning means comprises a pulley 18 mounted on an axle 16 rotatably mounted at the end of a pivoted arm 12, the pulley 18 being urged into contact with a belt 31 under the action of a screw 20 and nut 26 located in a spool 25 to which a substantially constant torque is applied by a spring 30. One end of the spring 30 is attached to the spool 25 and the other end is secured to a spool 27 journalled on a pin 28 secured to a sheet-metal structure 29. The tensioner may be applied to tensioning a chain or cable. A bearing pad may replace the pulley 18. Furthermore, the torque may be generated by a spiral spring or by a weight hanging on a cord wrapped around the spool 25.
