Abstract

1,175,951. Belt or chain-tensioning devices. 0. T. BREWER. 15 Jan., 1968, No. 2141/68. Heading F2Q. A belt or chain tensioner comprises an idler pulley 41 rotatably mounted on an arm 31 which is mounted on a pivot shaft 21 formed with pinion teeth 30 engaging a toothed rack 47 which is urged by a spring 56 into a position whereby the arm 31 is located in a predetermined angular position. The pivot shaft 21, rack 47 and spring 56 are mounted on a base 13 which is adjustably supported on bolts 15, 16. The arm 31 is adjustably coupled to the pivot shaft 21 by co-operating teeth 22, 23 which are maintained in engagement by a bolt 34.
