Abstract

1314971 Gas burners NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 4 May 1970 [6 Feb 1969] 6393/69 Heading F4T A method of mixing fuel gas and oxygen comprises supplying first and second fluid flows, one of fuel gas and one of oxygen, passing the first fluid flow through at least one delivery tube 10 which terminates in a nozzle opening 11 tapering towards its outlet end throughout its length, passing the second fluid flow externally of the delivery tube to the nozzle opening, so that the two fluids mix to provide a combustible mixture in and downstream of the nozzle opening, and adjusting the outlet end 13 of the tube 10 relative to the outlet end of the opening for flame adjustment purposes. A high intensity fuel gas burner for carrying out the above method comprises a tubular body 1 housing three chambers, the chambers 6 and 8 being fed with pressurized fuel gas and oxygen respectively via inlets 7 and 9. A plurality of delivery tubes 10 extend from chamber 6 to a nozzle block 2 provided with nozzle openings 11. The tubes 10 are axially adjustable and are preferably arranged in concentric circles. In an alternative embodiment the fuel gas and oxygen supplies are reversed.
