Abstract

1314760 Cold liquefied gas storage tanks BRIDGESTONE LIQUEFIED GAS CO Ltd 19 Nov 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 53785/71 Heading F4P The outer rigid shell 1a of a cold liquefied gas storage tank, e.g. the inner hull of a ship, is lined internally with load bearing heat insulation material 2, e.g., polyurethane foam, which is itself lined with a first membrane tank 3 within which and in close contact therewith is a second membrane tank 3a containing the stored liquid, e.g. petroleum gas; the plates of the second tank 3a being of thinner material having a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the plates of the first tank 3. The plates of tank 3 are of stainless steel whilst those of tank 3a are of 9% nickel steel and the space between them is connected by a pipe 10 to a vacuum pump 9. A gas analyser (not shown) connected to pipe 10 serves to indicate leakage through tank 3a.
