Abstract

1313857 Feeding webs MASSON SCOTT THRISSELL ENG Ltd 2 July 1970 [5 July 1969] 33987/69 Heading B8R Apparatus 11 for preparing a plurality of reels of sheet material for a subsequent unwinding operation comprises a stand provided with rollers 25 which allow a supported reel 14 to rotate about a horizontal axis, the rollers being mounted on a jack 27 so that the reel can be elevated and also turned about the vertical axis of the jack, as shown in the lower station of Fig. 2; with the reel in this position, damaged outer layers can be removed and delivered into a collection bin (not shown) or on to a belt conveyer (242), Fig. 7 (not shown). The apparatus includes a weighing station 20 constituted by a platform 21 supported on a load cell 22; in a modification the jack 27 includes a weighing mechanism to determine the initial weight of the reel and the weight when finally prepared so as to check the amount of waste. The apparatus is associated with an alignment station (30), Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown) provided with jack-supported rollers which permit the reels to be moved both axially and vertically into alignment with a shaftless unwinding station (12), Figs. 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 (not shown), forming the subject of Specifications 1,313,855 and 1,313,856.
