1293265 Feeding webs CUTTERS MACHINE CO Inc 22 May 1970 [10 June 1969] 24794/70 Heading B8R Apparatus 10 for transferring a web roll 52, e.g. of cloth material, from a storage truck 11 to a discharge station such as a cloth spreading machine 12 comprises a platform 25 having an inclined surface which co-operates with upstanding barrier rods 50 mounted on a base frame 20, the platform 25 being movable between upper and lower limit positions by means of a motor 43. In operation, the platform 25 is initially located at an elevation such that fingers 71 pivoted to the platform are positioned between the shelves 62 and 63 of track 11; the platform is then moved upwardly carrying the fingers up between cradle arms 65 to engage and lift the front roll 66 until it has cleared the arms 65, when the roll will gravitate on to the inclined surface of the platform where it will rest as shown in Fig. 1, against the barrier rods 50. To transfer the roll 52, the platform 25 is raised further until its inclined surface is flush with the upper ends of the rods 50 (Fig. 6, not shown), permitting the roll 52 to drop on to a support platform 17 of the machine 12. The platform 25 can then be moved downwardly, below the shelf 63 if shelf 62 is empty, for the handling cycle to be repeated.
