Abstract

1,180,985. Feeding webs. CUTTERS MACHINE CO. Inc. 4 Sept., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 40321/67. Heading B8R. In a two drum web unwinder, the web-roll 26 is supported by a pair of spaced bearing blocks 21 vertically slidable on upright standards 19, and by the drums or feed rollers 49, 50, which are spring urged upwardly into engagement with the web-roll 26. As the web is unwound from the roll 26, the diameter will decrease, permitting springs 63 and 64 to urge link arms 53 and 54, and consequently rollers 49 and 50 up. wardly. As the rollers rise, a limit switch 70 will eventually be actuated to energize a motor (41, Fig. 2) which will lower the bearing blocks 21 via a gear train 36, 37, sprockets 33 and chain 29. The feed rollers 49 and 50 are therefore depressed and the switch 70 de-actuated to stop the motor (41). A plate 90, attached to front link arms 53, extends transversely across the web and prevents it from winding around the feed roller 49. The complete unwinding apparatus is mounted on roller bearings 14 on the cloth spreading machine 12, which allows for transverse registration of the web. The motor (41) may be reversed to raise the bearing blocks 21 for the insertion of a replacement web-roll. As illustrated in Fig. 2, any number of feed rollers or feed roller sections 49 and 50 may be mounted coaxially on the roller shafts 51 and 52, respectively.
