Abstract

1457583 Web splicing PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 13 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 11261/74 Heading B8R A web splicing apparatus comprises a stand 21, Fig. 1, supporting a pair of web rolls 31a, 31b from which the web 30 is fed alternately by feed rollers 35, 36 following splicing by eccentrically mounted splicing rollers 43, 44, the web 30 being drawn during splicing from an accumulator 26 associated with a web tensioning and dancer roller descent rate controlling means 27, 28, respectively. The apparatus also includes web roll brakes 24. During web feeding the tension in the web 30 is controlled automatically by controlling the brake force applied to the brakes in terms of dancer elevation over a predetermined range above the lower stop 61. The applied brake force is inversely proportional to the dancer roller 59, 60 elevation.
