Abstract

1312804 Feeding webs KARL LIEBFRIED GmbH 10 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 28115/70 Heading B8R A machine for wrapping articles 1 in shrinkfilm comprises rollers 17 for supporting a first reel 7 of film 3; similar rollers for supporting a second reel 8 of film 4, and located on the opposite side of the conveyance path 2 of the articles 1, the films 3 and 4 being joined together at 6 for the wrapping operation; rollers 22 for supporting standby reels 19, 20 adjacent the reels 7 and 8 respectively; and two transverse welding devices 23, 24, 25, one located between reel 7 and a tensioning device 11 for the web 3 and the other located between reel 8 and a tensioning device 11 for the web 4. Thus, when a diameter-sensing detector 21 indicates that a reel, e.g. reel 8, is nearing exhaustion the wrapping machine is stopped, the reel is removed from the rollers 16, the standby reel 20 is rolled over from its support to replace the spent reel, and the leading end of the new reel is joined to the end of the old web 5 by the welding devices 23, 24, 25. The wrapping operation can then proceed as before after only a short interruption necessitated by the reel change.
