Abstract

1313300 Heat exchangers COURTAULDS Ltd 18 Sept 1970 [19 Sept 1969] 46202/69 Addition to 1153142 Heading F4S The heat exchanger of the parent invention wherein a tube of plastics film (the outer tube) encircles at least one tube 2 (the inner tube) also of plastics film, providing a fluid (coolant water) path between the inner and outer tubes, is modified for use with liquids including slurries in that the tube 2 formerly the inner tube is suspended vertically and in a flattened condition, and in that the outer tube is replaced by individual sheet elements also of plastics film flanking the sides of the tube 2, these flanking elements serving to guide a coolant liquid over the outer surface of the tube 2. As shown, the tube 2 is held suspended by bars 9, 10 and is tensioned by weights 22. The flanking elements comprise double sheets 3, 4 and 5, 6 respectively and are held suspended by bars 14, 15 and positioned near the wall of tube 2 by pincher rods 16, 17. The coolant issues from tubes 18, 19 and exhausts into troughs 23. The respective double sheets 3, 4 and 5, 6 provide air layers which serve to insulate the cooling water from the atmosphere.
