Abstract
1312169 Surgical heating electrode F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 25 Aug 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 39898/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division G1] An electrode, suitable for external application to measure blood-gas through the skin, is heated to improve local blood-circulation. In Fig. 1, an arrangement suitable for insertion in the corner of the eye, comprises a single platinum electrode 11 mounted in a copper block 12 surrounded by a resistance heating coil 13 and provided with a thermistor 17 in a central bore control the temperature. The heating block may be encapsulated in a plastics material 15. Fig. 2 shows a two electrode membrane cell with a silver-ring-reference electrode 29 having a chlorinated face and mounted in the encapsulating material 25 surrounding the heating block and central platinum electrode 21. The P.T.F.E. membrane 32 is held in place by a plastic cap 34.
