1311689 Can openers HOOVER Ltd 29 April 1970 [2 May 1969] 20673/70 Heading B8D In a can opener having a shaft 36 of a can drive-wheel 16 driven by an electric motor through a gear train in a casing 10, the drive wheel, shaft, and a lever handle 42 carrying a cutter wheel 14 are mounted on a support plate 14, which is readily detachably fastened to the casing by manually-operable fasteners 58 and 60 captive on the plate whereby the cutter wheel and drive wheel may be removed for cleaning or replacement. The fasteners each comprise a knob 62 having a body portion 64, which is retained in a bore of the support plate by a retaining washer 68, and a cam key portion 65, which passes through a slot-shaped bore in a casing boss 70 and locks the plate to casing when the fastener is rotated through 90 degrees. The drive-wheel shaft 36 is rotatably-mounted in the support plate and has a flattened end portion 39, which engages in a corresponding slot 28 of the final gear 22 of the gear train on fastening the support plate to the casing. A magnet 54 for holding the cut-away can end is detachably-attached to the support plate by an arm 52.
