Abstract

1311009 Dyeing polyolefines E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 11 Dec 1970 [11 Dec 1969] 59066/70 Heading D1B Polyolefin-containing shaped articles, e.g. fibres are dyed by (1) forming a shaped article from a uniform blend of 98 to 85 percent by weight of the polyolefin and 2 to 15 percent by weight of a copolymer of ethylene and aminoalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, (2) treating the shaped article with an aqueous prescour solution containing 3 to 200 percent by weight based on the weight of shaped article of a scour material comprising hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, sulphamic acid, alkali metal bisulphate, phosphoric acid, ptoluene-sulphonic acid, or alkali metal dihydrogen phosphates at 80 to 120‹C (3) the article is then dyed with an acid dye bath at pH 3 to 7. The copolymer may contain 1 to 50 mole percent of copolymerized aminoalkyl acrylate or methacrylate of formula in which R 1 is H or CH 3 , R 2 and R 3 which may be the same or different each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and n is an integer 1 to 4 inclusive. The polyolefin, preferably polypropylene fibres may be mixed with nylon fibres, printing, space dyeing and continuous dyeing are specified.
