Abstract
In a process for colouring a shaped polyolefinic article, e.g fibres, containing at least 0.01% by weight of a dissociable transition metal compound, calculated as metal, there is used as dyestuff a water-insoluble compound of the formula <FORM:1070105/C3/1> in which X is -SR3, <FORM:1070105/C3/2> or -CN; R1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxycarbonyl group; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or an aryl group; R4 is a non-solubilizing substituent; n is 0, 1, 2 or 3; R5 and R15 are each a lower alkyl, cyclo alkyl or phenyl group, or R5 and R15 may together form members of a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring including the nitrogen atom of the carboxylic acid amide; and R1, R2, R3, R5 and R15 may contain one or more nonsolubilizing groups. The polyolefines may be homopolymers of olefines such as ethylene, propylene, 3-methyl butene-1,4-methyl pentene-1 and 5-methyl hexene-1, copolymers of two or more of these olefines, or graft-copolymers. The usual anti-oxidants, U.V. absorbants, fluorescent brighteners, delustering agents, stabilizers, plasticizers and dyeing auxiliaries may be added to the polyolefines. The preferred metal compounds are organic acid salts and organic complex compounds of nickel, zinc, copper, chromium and cobalt, especially their higher carboxylic acid salts. In the examples, fibres produced by melt spinning compositions of isotactic polypropylene and nickel or zinc stearates are dyed in an aqueous bath including the dyestuff and, as a surface-active agent, either a polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether or a mixture of sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate and the sodium salt of a condensation product of naphthalene sulphonic acid with formaldehyde. The use of many dyes conforming to the above formula is exemplified. In one example the dyestuff is applied to a polypropylene Taffeta as an aqueous printing paste comprising also polyoxymethylene nonylphenyl ether and textile gum, and the printed Taffeta is then steamed and subsequently washed.ALSO:In a process for colouring a shaped polyolefinic article, e.g fibres, containing at least 0.01% by weight of a dissociable transition metal compound, calculated as metal, there is used as dyestuff a water insoluble compound of the formula: <FORM:1070105/D1-D2/1> in which X is <FORM:1070105/D1-D2/2> ; R1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxycarbonyl group; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or an aryl group; R4 is a non-solubilizing substituent; n is 0, 1, 2 or 3; R5 and R\sv5 are each a lower alkyl, cyclo alkyl or phenyl group, or R5 and R5\sv may together form members of a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring including the nitrogen atom of the carboxylic acid amide; and R1, R2, R3, R5 and R5\sv may contain one or more non-solubilizing groups.
