Four-stroke-cycle engines.-In an engine having an odd number of rows of radial cylinders, each row has a commcn inlet pipe, a common exhaust pipe and a common magneto, and the valves are actuated bv cam shafts located between the rows. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, nine rows of cylinders arranged four in a row have each an independent carburettor h<1>, a magneto i<1>, and an exhaust pipe g<1>. If preferred, the exhaust pipes of all the units may discharge into a common pipe, and the inlet pipes may be connected to a ,common carburettor. The cam shafts (not shown) are carried in the crank casing, low down in the Vs formed by the cylinders.
