Compression engines: cylinders, cooling.- Cylinders c, b are disposed singly or in rows on each side of a central cylinder or row of cylinders a at an angle approximating 40 degrees. Each cylinder or row of cylinders may have a separate magneto j, g, h arranged as shown in Fig. 2 Cam shafts f, e pass through the crank casing, the valves of the cylinders a, c being actuated from the shaft f, and the valves of the cylinder b from the other shaft. Cooling-water is circulated by a pair of pumps m, k mounted upon, or driven from, the cam shafts. A single circulating-pump driven from the crank-shaft may be used. Also, ignition may be effected in all the cylinders by one magneto. The three-cylinder units may be bolted together and comprise a built-up structure.
