Abstract

1309630 Powder metallurgy INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 6 July 1971 [6 July 1970 6 April 1971] 31726/71 Heading C7D Mechanically alloyed dispersion strengthened powders of "saturation hardness" formed by dry milling according to Specification 1,265,343 are sheathed e. g. in a steel can and hot worked e.g. extruded, at 921‹-1210‹C. with an area reduction ratio of 6À3: 1 to 35:1. The temperature and reduction ratio are correlated so that on annealing coarse grains elongated in the working direction are formed. Preferably the formed alloy contains in weight per cent. 15-25Cr, 0À5-2À5 Al, 1-5Ti, 0-5Mo, 0-5W, 0-2Nb, 0-4Ta, 0-1 V, 0-2Mn, 0-1Si, 0-0À2C, 0-0À1B, 0-0À5Zr, 0-0À2Mg, 0-2Hf, 0-10Fe, 0À5-5%vol of a dispensed e.g. ThO 2 Y 2 O 3 , CeO or rare earth oxides, balance Ni and / or Co of at least 40%. The temperature and reduction ratio of hot working are preferably to correspond to a point with the area JKLMNJ of the drawing. The coarse grains in the annealed structure preferably have an aspect ratio (major axis/minor axis) of at least 3:1
