Abstract

1308848 Television camera tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Sept 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 40747/71 Heading H1D A television camera tube comprises a first cylindrical envelope portion joined by a neck to a larger diameter cylindrical portion connected to a faceplate 2, Fig. 2, carrying a photoconductive layer 3, a supporting ring for a gauze electrode 8 being clamped between the faceplate and the neck by resilient pressure means. As illustrated the gauze 8 may be clamped between two supporting rings 19 and 20 which are mounted in a centering ring 16 disposed between an insulating ring 21 bearing on the neck and a spring ring 15 and pressure ring 14. Two platinum pins 17 and 18 are sealed through the envelope to make connection to the gauze electrode 8. The neck comprises a rounded portion of radius R and is coated internally with a conductive layer 10 which extends back to the final anode (Fig. 1, not shown). The dimensions indicated should be within the following limits: where the point 22 is the centre of deflection and the diameter D is 14 mm. Also the voltage V 2 of the gauze should be (2À0Œ0À35) V 1 where V 1 is the potential of the coating 10, preferred values being 500 and 1000 volts for V 1 and V 2 . In manufacture the envelope is formed to the correct shape on a jig and the length of the wider cylindrical part is accurately adjusted by grinding; the distances between the gauze electrode and the neck and target are then determined by the support rings which can be made accurately. The faceplate may be sealed to the envelope by means of glue or enamel after the electrode system has been sealed and cleaned.
