Abstract

1308691 Laminates MANUFACTURE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PROTEX 20 March 1970 [21 March 1969] 13737/70 Heading B5N A method for covering a panel comprises depositing on one or both surfaces of the panel a pre-condensed phenolformaldehyde liquid resin of the "resol" type in aqueous or aqueousalcoholic solution, with a molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol between 1À5 and 2À5, the viscosity of the solution being between 7 and 12, applying several moments later, to the or each coated surface of the panel at least one sheet of porous material, the sheet or sheets not having been previously impregnated with resin, depositing on the said sheet or sheets a layer of resin identical with the resin initially deposited on the panel or compatible therewith and placing the assembly into a press with heated plates in which heat and pressure are applied to the assembly to cure the resin. The resin solution may be applied by a glueing or varnishing machine. The resin may be dried by evaporation prior to introducing the assembly into the press. The compatible resin may be casein, albumin, an aminoplast or an acrylic resin. The porous material may be paper or a textile material, e.g. tissue, felt, a non-woven fabric or a layer of fibres. The panel may be of laminated wood.
