Abstract

130,821. Ireland, A. J. T. Sept. 5, 1918. Screw propellers. - An airscrew &c., bored on the estimated axis of balance, is mounted and tried in succession on a number of spindles each provided at its ends with bearings having a common axis, the distance between the common axis and the axis of the spindle being different in different spindles. Fig. 1 shows one of such spindles A fitted eccentrically into the sleeve B. The spindle has cylindrical ends eccentric to the spindle bearing against a shoulder on the sleeve B, which carries an integral flange b<2> and a screwed flange b. Means are provided whereby, when the spindle has been turned relatively to the sleeve, it can be clamped to prevent further movement.
