Abstract

1307649 Nickel electro-coating of titanium substrates CLEVITE CORP 17 Sept 1971 43551/71 Addition to 1137960 Heading C7B A nickeliferous coating is formed on a titanium or titanium-based alloy substrate by a method comprising (a) electro-deposition of a sound layer of nickel, (b) electro-deposition of a nickeliferous layer by the method claimed in Cl 7 of the Parent Spec<SP>h</SP>, and (c) heat-treating the nickeliferous coating at 900-1050‹F. for 30-90 mins. The substrate may be cleaned, etched in hydrofuoric/ nitric acid and activated in hydrofluoric/acetic acid prior to nickel coating, and may receive a further coating of sound nickel after the nickeliferous coating, before or after the heat-treatment.
