Abstract

1307630 Prefabricated buildings H SOMMERARD 1 Oct 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 46773/70 Heading E1A A prefabricated building is constructed from a series of bays and each bay comprises cavity walls 4, 5, roof sections 18, 19 of inverted tray-like configuration and floor sections of U-shaped cross-section which are arranged to form gutters 28, are upturned at 29 to form a raised floor or interconnected to-gether as at 31, 32 to form ducting 33. The walls are made of re-inforced concrete and are of partitioned cavity construction supported by feet 6 on piles or posts 7. The upper cavity is packed with heat insulating material 14 and the lower cavity in a wall communicates with that in adjacent bays to serve as a venting system. Each roof section is notched at 24 to rest on a wall and the roof sections of adjacent bays are pinned to-gether, a steel member suspended from one of the pins serving to support a tie-beam 25. The roof may be covered by bituminised card or felt, asphalt, tiles, corrugated aluminium plates, asbestos cement or synthetic resins, see also Specification for minor details of roof construction and materials employed therein.
