1307061 Anti jack-knifing systems D W MONNERY 30 April 1970 [31 Jan 1969(2) 12 March 1969] 5405/69 5510/69 and 12974/69 Heading B7T In an articulated vehicle jack-knifing is controlled by a first turntable part 5 rigidly fixed to trailer 1 and a second turntable part 4 rigid with the tractor, the articulation between the tractor and trailer taking place about king pin 6, and there being provided on the tractor one or more brake calipers 8 which are adapted to engage a radial extension of turntable part 4 when operated manually from the tractor cab or on operation of the vehicle brakes. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the trailer turntable part is formed with peripheral teeth 17 which engage a gear wheel 18 mounted on the tractor, the calipers engaging a disc 20 integral with the gear wheel. Alternatively the gear wheel may be braked by a drum brake. Also the teeth 17 and wheel 18 may be replaced by a belt and pulley or a chain and sprocket. Step-up gearing may be provided between the gear wheel 18 and brake disc 20.
