Abstract

1,205,314. Anti Jack-knifing. J. E. MORGAN. 19 Aug., 1969 [8 Aug., 1968], No. 37868/68. Heading B7T. An anti jack-knife device comprises a king- pin 1 adapted for non-rotatable connection to a fifth wheel plate and rotatable in bearings 2 in a back plate 3 of a trailer 5, the king-pin mounting at its upper end a cylindrical brake drum 7 adapted to be contacted by brake shoes 8 on application of the articulated vehicle brakes, thereby preventing any articulation. The brake shoes are connected to the trailer and operated either hydraulically or pneumatically. In a modification the brake drum is connected to the trailer and the brake shoes to the king-pin.
