Abstract

1306389 Portable containers; packages; container closures ABBOTT LABORATORIES 12 May 1970 [6 June 1969] 23034/70 Headings B8C B8D and B8T [Also in Division A5] A sealed and parenteral solution-filled blow moulded container of thermoplastics, e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene, comprises a cap 20 integrally connected to the externally-threaded neck 12 of the container by a rupturable web 30. The cap protects the sealing rim surface 18 of the container, which surface provides a seating surface for the gasket 52 of a dispensing cap 50 which is screwed to the neck after the cap 20 has been removed by twisting or pressing down. Tubes 56 of the dispensing cap enable the contents to be withdrawn and air to be admitted into the container which, in use, is suspended neck down. The sealing surface 18 is formed by a shouldered filling mandrel 40, Fig. 2 (not shown), after a tubular parison has been formed to shape in a mould 36, and the cap completed after withdrawal of the mandrel. The surface 18 is flat as shown but may be of tapered, V-shaped or crowned shape.
