Abstract

1306833 Moulding bottle caps KLM CO 22 May 1970 [22 May 1969] 24975/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A plastics screw cap for a container has a top wall 12 and screwthread 16. In a region adjacent the top wall 12 ridges 22 are provided which engage the container neck and prevent slipping. Additional sealing is provided by ring indentation 20 in the top wall 12. The cap is moulded in a three-part mould 48, a part 54 providing the screw thread, part 56 the ridges, and part 58 the top wall. Plastics sheet is placed across the top of the mould and heated, and vacuum is then applied to the mould cavity via pipe 66, hole 64, cavity 61 and channels 60, thereby sucking the sheet into the mould and vacuum-forming it. Pressure may also be applied to the outside of the shell as well as or instead of the vacuum. The plastics material may be polyethylene, polypropylene, or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene.
