Abstract

1306096 Fuel injection timing ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 21 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 18935/70 Heading F1A In a device 17 for varying the timing of a fuel injection pump including a piston 19, connected to a rotatable cam ring driving the pump plungers and movable against spring 21 by fuel from a feed pump 5, the fuel is directed to the piston via an inlet 12 and passages 15, 15", 16 and an electromagnetically actuated valve controls a spill passage 22, 15'. As shown coil 26 is actuated and armature 25 allows ball 24 to seat closing passage 22, and ball 14 to open inlet 12. On deactivation of the coil fuel in chamber 11 acts via passage 27 on the face 25' of the armature to open passage 22 and close inlet 12, thus allowing piston 19 to move under the force of spring 21. During a pumping stroke, with coil 26 activated, the restoring forces on piston 19 cause both balls 14, 24 to seat thus preventing any cam movement.
