Abstract

1305087 Fuel injection pumps MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 2 March 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 9954/70 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump capable of one or twostage injection, the start of the second part of the injection during two stage injection is determined by the dimensions of a spill passage 24 in the plunger which communicates with a spill port 23 in the plunger barrel between the injection stages. The plunger is rotatably mounted in the barrel in which a fuel inlet port 22 is defined at right angles to spill part 23, and the plunger head has upper and lower portions 11a and 11b respectively. For two part injection portion 11a and port 22, and passage 24 and port 23, respectively, are aligned. A first lobe on a radial cam lifts the plunger to position l 3 , injection occurring between l 1 , when portion 11a blocks port 22, and l 3 . At l 3 passage 24 and port 23 register and a dwell on the cam allows the plunger to retract. A second lobe relifts the plunger and injection occurs at l 4 when the passage and spill port move out of register. The plunger may be rotated so that the passage and spill port are not aligned and injection occurs in a single stage when the inlet port is blocked by portion 11b. In other embodiments the plunger head may be oblique, and the ports 22 and 23 and related portions 11a and passages 24 may be at 180 degrees to each other.
