Abstract

1302099 Surface treatment of crystalline thermoplastic articles CHISSO CORP 2 April 1970 [2 April 1969] 15794/70 Heading B5A The surface of moulded articles of crystalline thermoplastics is coarsened by treatment with a solvent having an affinity therefor whilst the resin is in a transition from the molten to the solid state. The resin may be (a) a polyolefin e.g. polypropylene, polyethylene, poly-4-methylpentene-1, a propylene/ethylene copolymer, or (b) a polyamide, e.g. nylon-6, nylon-6,6 or (c) a polyester, e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene. If (a), the solvent may be pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, nonane, decane, gasoline, petroleum ether, petroleum benzine, ligroin, kerosine, light oil, liquid paraffin, benzene, toluene, xylene, trichlorethane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, cyclohexane, decalin, tetralin, tetrahydrofuran, propyl acetate, butyl acetate, amyl acetate or dioctyl adipate, sebacate or phthalate. If (b), the solvent may be a lower alkanol or if (c), tetrahydrofuran or dimethylformamide.
