Abstract

1393359 Coalescer-filter element B P THOMAS 28 March 1972 21766/74 Divided out of 1392280 Heading B1D Salt water is separated from diesel fuel using a tubular ooalescer-filter element comprising concentric layers of glass fibre and thermoplastics, which may be nylon, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, viscose or acrylic. An outward-flow element may have the thermoplastics layer between two outermost layers of glass fibre. The element shown comprises a perforate support tube 30, a layer 31 of woven thermoplastics, a layer 32 of thermosetting resin-bonded glass fibres, layer 33 of woven thermoplastics layer 34 of meshed plastic-coated glass fibre, layer 35 of cellulose acetate and an outer woven stockinette tube 36. The electrostatic characteristics of thermoplastics are stated to assist coalescence of salt water.
