Abstract
1301321 Measuring displacement electrically BENDIX CORP 23 Feb 1970 [25 Feb 1969] 8471/70 Headings G1M, G1N Apparatus for measuring the dimensions of a workpiece 36 includes a gauge head 35 supported from an arm 26 and a rod 40 of a material of which the temperature co-efficient of expansion is negligible compared with that of the arm, a device 44 sensing the displacement, due to temperature changes, of the end of the arm with respect to the end 43 of the rod and providing a corresponding electrical signal to a combining apparatus 52 wherein it compensates the electrical signal from the gauge head for changes of length of the arm due to temperature changes. Alternatively the apparatus may be used to compensate for errors due to changes of arm length caused by high loading thereof. The rod 40 is of quartz, glass or invar and the arm 26 of steel or aluminium. The device 44 utilizes a telescoping plunger 46 or it is a non-contacting electro-optical device (of unspecified construction.)
