Abstract

1300745 Impregnating knitted fabrics E I ARONOFF 17 March 1970 [18 March 1969 (2)] 14176/69 and 14177/69 Heading DIL An apparatus and process for impregnating a knitted tubular fabric, in which the fabric F after other treatments is passed into the impregnating stage 16, between two endless conveyors 25 and 35, which are porous and of wire mesh construction. A bath of liquid resin R in a vessel 20 serves to impregnate the fabric F. Rollers 26, 36 and 24, 32 press against each other, and an idler roller 38 is arranged below the plane defined by the nip of these rollers, so that the conveyors 25 and 35 press against each other throughout the portion of the run through the vessel 20 to maintain the loop geometry of the fabric. Rollers 26 and 36 are adapted to press against each other under pressure to remove excess liquid from the fabric as it leaves the impregnation stage 16, and further excess liquid is removed downstream of rollers 26 and 36 by nip rollers 46 and 48, the liquid removed here collecting in the drip pan 50 and returning to the vessel 20 via pipe 52. Another embodiment of the invention replaces the top conveyor belt with a large hollow drum (Fig. 4 not shown).
